They say that romance is in decline, that men and women are irreconcilably different. They say that St. Valentine’s is a cash-grab: jewellers, flower merchants and card dealers rub their palms together at the consumption-driven sheep of our day. Feb 14^th makes up for a seasonal sales low.

Yet all the while we sit by in cynicism. Unseen, ungifted, and unromanced.

It is very, very easy to figure out women, and figure out men. Once we get away from our disappointments and expectations, snap out of daydreams and illusions, and meet the sheer actual beauty of life. All is needed is a space to slow down, to feel, and to listen. When the context (and your leadership) is right, incredible healing, softening, heart-opening, can unfold. Even on your very first date.

I work with singles and couples—guys of 18 wanting their intimate ‘initiation’; folks in their 60s looking to start their love-lives anew. Whatever your stage in life, your history of triumph or heartbreak or hurt, we are all up against the same dastardly villain: modern life has conspired to suck the soul, to suck the romance, away from daily discourse. One has to put in an extraordinary personal effort if they are to resurrect the art of love in and around them. One must commit to being the light for others.

Back in the 1600s, when philosophers entered the ‘Enlightenment’ (and imported coffee from far overseas), they would sit together in Oxford brew rooms, and push the collective insight ever deeper. In the Belle Epoque and Lost Generation eras of Paris, the world’s greatest artists, sculptors, muses and writers would gather in the apartment of a local legend, bristle with jealousy about each other’s work, but ultimately energise the whole artistic scene.

The Salón Amorata is a refuge, in today’s atomized and cynical world, where the lovers can come together, to share what they long for, to share in their secrets, and to spread a little erotic mischief into society again. If you would like to rekindle and spread a little of that Valentine’s spirit—not just in February, but the whole year round—then you are welcome to join us at this event.

There will be an easy-going meet-and-great. And I will facilitate an authentic discussion, between men and women of all ages, around the necessary topics of love, romance, intimacy, and attraction; and about your part to play in this dance.

Dress as if for a first date. Bring your own wine.
